what is diode?

What is diode?

HELLO FRIENDS.

DIODE

It is a semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only.

That’s why It is also called unidirectional component.

It has two terminals named ANODE & CATHODE.

AS SHOWN IN FIG THE SILVER BAND ON A SIDE INDICATES CATHODE.

& THE SYMBOL IS ALSO SHOWN IN THIS IMAGE.

A diode works only in forward biased.

When we connect a diode in the circuit in correct position as shown in fig below, the diode will allows current to flow.

& a diode oppose the current when connected in reverse biased as shown in fig.

APPLICATION

AC to DC rectifier.

EX:- battery chargers, etc.

Reverse protection as shown below

To oppose the current flowing back to charger.
