CALCULATE RESISTOR FOR LED? | FROM WHICH SEMICONDUCTOR MATERIAL LED IS MADE?

FRIENDS.

The color of
LED maters in calculation of resistance of LED.
A
reference table is given below for different color LEDs.
This table
is used for the calculation of resistance for LED, but different manufacturers
make LEDs, so the voltage rating is also different.
To
know voltage of a LED there are two ways:-

DATASHEET
·
MULTIMETER
But sometimes datasheets are not easy to find, of different
manufacturers.
So best way to find voltage is multimeter.
HOW TO FIND VOLTAGE WITH THE HELP OF MULTIMETER?
To
find voltage through multimeter:-
· First make a small circuit in which,
you will need a battery, a resister & the LED which you have to check.
·
Connect positive of battery to one
end of resistor, and other leg of resistor to LED’s positive. At last negative
of LED to negative of battery.
·
IMPORTANT:- if
you use 9v battery, use atleast 330Ω resistor. Resistor in this circuit is used
to just protect the LED from getting damaged.

Now
connect the probes of multimeter to positive & negative leg of LED, and
check the voltage of LED.
TO CALCULATE THE RESISTOR USED FOR LED:-
For calculate the resistor to use for LED:-
· We have to see input voltage, LEDs
voltage & current consumed by the LED(Average current consumed by LEDs are
30mA.).
· Suppose we have input voltage=9v,
LED
voltage=1.5V.
Current consumed by LED=30mA.
∴ RLED= INV- LEDV/ILED.
∴ RLED= 9V- 1.5/30mA.
∴ RLED= 7.5/30mA.
∴ RLED= 7.5×1000/30A. (mili amps to Ampere)
∴ RLED= 7500/30A.
∴ RLED= 250Ω. (this type of values are not available, so we have to use
nearby value, for example 220Ω or330Ω).
